Velikiy Ustiug - residence of the Ded Moroz

Velikiy Ustyug with its surroundings is one of the most beautiful places of Vologda Oblast and all over Russia. It is a fairy tale city, unique in the North that is truly called Great. For centuries it surprizes by the originality of crafts including the most unique one "frost on tin", by primordiality of the majestic woods, by abundance of diverse animals.

"Velikiy Ustyug - residence of the Ded Moroz (Father Frost)" project embodies the most generous intentions: to accustom the young generation to the sources of Russian culture, to uncover the peculiarities of national traditions, to acquaint with the culture and nature of the Russian North. The town of Velikiy Ustyug was chosen as the residence of the Father Frost. This choice was determined historically originating in the far pre-Christian epoch. Father Frost - a kind old man - is an indispensable character of noisy colorful celebrations in folklore and winter festive events of many nations.

Father Frost Office including a museum, a workshop, and a post-office has been opened in Velikiy Ustyug. Tourists may have a talk and take pictures with Father Frost in the throne- room, send greetings and letters to the relatives and friends with a special seal and autograph of Father Frost reset by a special stamp, buy original souvenirs or produce a hand-made article in his workshop.
