Description of the tour Historical Russia
DAY 1. Arrival in Saint-Petersburg. Transfer to the hotel. Accommodation.
DAY 2. Breakfast. Sightseeing tour. During the tour you will become acquainted with architecture, history and present day life of St.Petersburg, the history of the Romanov dynasty. City sightseeing tour includes a visit to Peter and Paul’s Fortress, the first structure in St. Petersburg. Inside the Peter and Paul’s Cathedral you will see tombstones of all Russian Emperors from PeterI to Nicholas II.
DAY 3. Breakfast Excursion to the State Hermitage museum, one of the oldest and the largest museums in the world. The collections of the museum are located and displayed in 5 historical buildings, including the Winter Palace – the former residence of the Russian tsars. Empress Catherine II initiated the collection of the Hermitage in 1764. In the end of the 19th century the museum was opened to public. You will be acquainted with magnificent works of the Dutch, Flemish, Italian, German, French and Spanish art schools. Among the great collections of the museum you will see the masterpieces of Leonardo da Vinci, Rafael, Titian, P.P. Rubens, Rembrandt, A. El Greco, N. Poussin, P. Gauguin, P. Picasso, A. Matisse.
DAY 4. Breakfast. Tour to Peterhof, which is a jewel of the Russian art, a town of parks, palaces, and fountains. It was built by Peter the Great to rival Versalles. In the past it used to be an exquisite summer residence of the Russian tsars. It is famous also through brilliant interiors of the Grand Palace. From the Grand Palace of Peterhof three monumental cascading fountains (one of them comprising the famous Samson) lead you to the Low Park, the real masterpiece in itself, with 173 fountains on its ground.
Transfer to Pskov, one of the oldest Russian towns founded in chronicles in 903. It will be the 1100 years anniversary of Pskov this year. Accommodation. Dinner.
DAY 5. Breakfast. Excursion to Izborsk–Pechory. Ancient fortress of the 14th century in Izborsk, situated 30 km west to Pskov, Slovensky springs, Truvor Hill–fort and location of the first fortress of the 9th century. Then, you continue your way to west (20 km from Izborsk) to Pechory where you visit St. Assumption Monastery, which serves as fortress of the 15th century. Return to Pskov. Lunch. Sightseeing tour. During the tour you will visit Pskov Kremlin, St. Trinity Cathedral. Dinner.
DAY 6. Breakfast. Trip to Novgorod, one of the oldest Russian towns. It is over 1,100 years old. During the city sightseeing tour you will get to know the history of the city and visit the main places of interest. Novgorod’s architecture and painting are unquestionably the best example of world culture. The Novgorod Kremlin is the 11th century citadel with unassailable walls and tall towers. Its oldest structure, St.Sofia’s Cathedral, amazes one with its great height (nearly 40 metres), its strength, spacious interior and acoustic qualities. The entire Kremlin grounds with all its structures, which have been restored, are the museum area. Lunch. Visit to the Yuriev Monastery, the museum of wooden architecture “Vitoslavlitsi”. Accommodation.
DAY 7. Breakfast. Transfer to St. Petersburg. Time at leisure. Transfer to the railway station to the train St. Petersburg – Moscow in the evening.
DAY 8. Arrival in Moscow. Meeting at the railway station. Breakfast. Starting the tour through the towns of so called “Golden Ring”. Transfer to Vladimir. During a sightseeing tour you see the famous Golden Gates, the Assumption Cathedral, the Cathedral of St. Dmitry, visit the Crystal museum. Lunch. Transfer to Suzdal. Accommodation. Dinner.
DAY 9. Breakfast. Sightseeing tour of Suzdal. Visit to the Kremlin, the Museum of Wooden Architecture. Lunch. You will see also the Saviour Monastery of St. Euthymius. Transfer to Kostroma. Accommodation. Dinner.
DAY 10. Breakfast. Visiting of the most important sights of Kostroma, such as the Monastery of St. Ipaty, the St. Trinity Cathedral etc. Transfer to Yaroslavl. Lunch. Sightseeing tour of Yaroslavl. Accommodation. Dinner.
DAY 11. Breakfast. Transfer to Rostov–Veliky. Excursion tour of Rostov with the visit of Kremlin. Transfer to Sergiev Posad. Lunch. Excursion to the St. Sergeuis Lavra. Transfer to Moscow. Accommodation.
DAY 12. Breakfast. Sightseeing tour. During the tour you will get to know the history of the city and see the main places of interests – the Red Square, the Moscow State University, the Bolshoi Theatre, the Triumphal Arch. You will drive along the main Moscow streets: Tverskaya, Novy Arbat Avenue, Kutuzovsky Avenue, Sadovoye and Bulvarnoye Rings. You can visit the metro of Moscow (optional). Moscow’s famous metro survives in all its constructivist glory, decorated with chandeliers and acres of marble. Most of its stations have been designated as architectural landmarks.
DAY 13. Breakfast. Visit to Kremlin, the historical centre of the city, the heart of Moscow. Kremlin is located on a hill washed from one side by the Moscow–river and from the other by its inflow – river Neglinnaya. On the Kremlin grounds you can see the Tsar Bell and the Tsar Cannon and visit Annunciation (Blagoveschensky), Arkhangel (Arkhalgelsky) and Assumption (Voznesensky) Cathedrals, the Bell–Tower of Ivan the Great and the Church of the Twelve Apostles – the wonderful monuments of Russian church architecture with unique richly decorated interiors. On the grounds of Kremlin you can see the oldest Moscow state museum – the Armory Chamber (optional). You can see the Russian, Eastern, Western art works of the XIV – XX centuries, the tsar’s thrones, the tsar’s garb (clothes) and armor, the unique silver and golden dishes.
DAY 14. Breakfast. Tour to Tretiyakov Gallery, The State Tretiakov Gallery is the national treasury of Russian fine art and one of the greatest museums in the world. It was formed in 1856 and named after its founder, Pavel Tretiakov, who donated his private collection to the City of Moscow in 1892. The main building of the museum is located not far from the Kremlin. The collection consists of about 125,000 works of art. Among the items are the unique examples of ancient Russian icons, including the outstanding icons painted by Andrei Rublev, Dionissus and Simon Ushakov. There are a lot of works of painters of XIII – XIX c. Time at leisure. DAY 15. Breakfast. Transfer to the airport Sheremetievo–2 in Moscow.
