Solovetskie islands are called the Northern Fairy tale, it is an belomorsky archipelago near the Polar circle. 6 large and about 200 small islands belong to the archipelago.
There is a great number of various historical and cultural monuments representing different times – from 3000 B.C. to the present century. Tourist and pilgrims from all around the world come here to admire mysterious neolithic constructions, which are stone piles, burial mounds, dolmens, labyrinths, laid out cobble figures with the spiral shape.
The main fame of Solovky – is a grand, situated on different islands unique ensemble of military desensive, cult, civil and hydrotechnical buildings, each monument has its own value, represent harmonic combination of architecture and nature, unique interaction of man and environment.
Tragic pages of Russian history are connected with Solovky. Till 1939 there was SLON – the most horrible concentration camp of Stalin’s epoch.
Architectural ensemble of Solovetsky historical–cultural complex is included to the UNESCO List of the world heritage.
