Kaliningrad is a very special city. It was founded in 1255 by Teutonic crusaders as a fortress and named Koenigsberg, which means The King’s Mountain in German. For a long period of time Koenigsberg was the capital of Eastern Prussia. There are many attractive places dating to the 13th through 19th centuries: city gates, numerous castles, and Lutheran and Roman-Catholic churches.

The Curonian Spit in kaliningrad region is an absolutely unique place. The nature there is a real wonder: wind and water have formed a narrow stripe of land separating the salty Baltic Sea and the freshwater Curonian Lagoon. The Curonian Spit represents a sandy peninsula 98 km long (48 km on the territory of Russia) and 400 m to 4 km wide.
