The most western region of Russia, the land of sun amber and nonfreezing Baltic Sea, the cultural and tourist gates connecting Russia and Europe – all this is the Kaliningrad region. The rich history, the soft sea climate, unique landscapes attract a great number of visitors here.

There are no more than 30 km from Kaliningrad to the Baltic Sea. Under the influence of cold and warm sea currents a unique microclimate has been formed along the shore. That is why there are so many health centers in the region. Even at the beginning of the 20th century the resorts situated on the territory of the region were very popular among European aristocracy.

The Curonian Spit is an absolutely unique place. The nature there is a real wonder: wind and water have formed a narrow stripe of land separating the salty Baltic Sea and the freshwater Curonian Lagoon. The Curonian Spit represents a sandy peninsula 98 km long (48 km on the territory of Russia) and 400 m to 4 km wide. It is only here that one can see deserts and meadows, damp alder deciduous forests, Southern taiga and sandy hills during one day. Here the unique ornithological station is located.
