Nature sights in Murmansk region and Kola Peninsul
Murmansk region is a nice place for people who prefer ecological tourism and outdoor recreation. Northern summer is abundant in berries and mushrooms. Bilberries, cowberries, bog bilberries, cranberries, crowberries, and cloudberries are gathered in summer on Kola Peninsula. Wonderful jam is made of cloudberries, which were once common as an emperor's dish. These berries grow on tussocks, their leaves are similar to those of raspberries or blackberries, ripe berries are bright orange in color.
One of the popular kind of tourism in Murmansk region is mineralogical one. Excursions to the most famous mineral deposits of the area are held by famous specialists on mineralogy. Amethyst deposits of the Terskiy Coast, amazon-stones of Zapandyye Keyvy are world-famous; pegmatites of the Kovdorskiy rayon, decorative jaspers, and dolomites of Pechenga are also very popular.
There is an excursion route around the water area of Kandalaksha Bay without landing to the islands of the nature reserve.

The Reserve is national property, and most uses within it are strictly controlled. Now, all economic activity, including fishing, hunting, and gathering, are forbidden.

There are several tourist routes in the preserve. The most visited is the island Varlamsaarri, where the first researcher of the area, a Norwegian ornithologist Hans Skonning, lived in the beginning of the XX century.
